The Spiedie

Spiedies, (pronounced “speedees”)
Marinated cubes of meat cooked on a skewer
originally from Italy, this delicacy seems to be found only in the Broome County area of Upstate New York.

Traditionally, Spiedies were made from lamb. Today you will find them made of lamb, pork, chicken, veal, venison and beef.

The Spiedie is a symbol of the welcoming of the grilling season, childhood memories of family gatherings and home town memories.

There is one name that continues to be associated with the Spiedie. The original Lupo’s Spiedie marinade, crafted at Lupo’s quality meat market over 70 years ago.

Often Imitated, But Never Duplicated

If you grew up in the Southern Tier of New York State then you know the Spiedie represents many things to many people. For some it marks the start of the beautiful Upstate New York grilling season. For others, it represents grilling in the backyard, the myriad of hot air balloons found at the annual Spiedie fest and childhood memories of outdoor gatherings with the family. Regardless of what a Spiedie means to you, there is one name that has been associated with the Spiedie for nearly 30 years, the premium marinades crafted by Sam Lupo & Sons.
